What will our first SSD drive…

Many solid-state drive manufacturers already offer products with a PCIe interface that support the PCI Express 4.0 standard. These are very powerful hard drives that can handle even the most demanding tasks. Often equipped with Phison E18 controller and NAND Flash 3D TLC memory elements. Some even offer RAID mode, which in practice provides exceptional data write and read speeds – much higher than what we’re used to with traditional hard drives.

However, at Samsung they decided to prepare a solid state drive, which will be equipped with a PCI Express 5.0 interface. This is a new generation of data interface that will be supported by next generation Intel and AMD processors. Samsung’s new hard drive (model PM1743) is based on the computer giant’s console and uses V-NAND TLC memory elements. The novelty could, at least in theory, provide data transfer speeds of up to 15.7 GB / s.

Samsung’s first Solid State Drive with the new PCI Express 5.0 bus is named PM1743. The new 2.5-inch size will provide data transfer speeds of up to 13 GB / s and will be able to store up to 15.36 TB of data. So it’s no surprise that these SSDs were initially designed for servers. Samsung will put the newcomers on sale in the first half of 2022, and the retail price for the newcomers is unknown, at least for the time being.
