2022 will be more interesting for smartphones. From foldable devices to premium series of devices from almost all manufacturers. What are you most looking forward to?
2021 was a very interesting year for phones. We’ve got 120W charging, an under-display camera, new foldable phones, and more. This year is expected to be even more exciting. Here we are mainly targeting rumors about the new iPhone 14 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, several new foldable devices and something else to be found.
So we have a lot of novelties ahead of us, among which we can expect the biggest soon. Quite a few of the biggest names among manufacturers announced updates to their devices as early as the first months of the year.
The list below consists of the devices that are eagerly awaited in 2022, the first of them and also the devices we are expecting towards the end of the year. All of the phones listed below are likely to be cool, or at least interesting, unusual, or innovative.
iPhone 14 . series
Yeah, you’d say, other than Apple, right? However, the truth is that the iPhone 14 and the entire series of devices in 2022 are the most eagerly awaited, and therefore we simply cannot forget about it.
However, the high expectations are actually well-founded, as the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max should both get an all-new design, without a hole-punch and camera.
In addition, we heard that the new iPhone 14 Max is expected to be launched this year – the basic iPhone with a large 6.7-inch screen, which is expected to replace the iPhone 14 Mini. Expectations also point to an improved 48MP camera, which is a big jump so far compared to 12MP sensors.
Of course, we can expect more rumors and speculations by the correct release date.
Samsung Galaxy S22 series
Samsung is among the first to shine in this year’s “smartphone stage”. According to the official announcements from Samsung, the Galaxy S22 series will be launched on February 8.
Regardless of the release date, rumors anticipate that the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus will have a screen and design generally similar to the Galaxy S21 series. The only major difference is expected to be the next generation of processors. As it turned out, this year Samsung devices around the world will be equipped with a Snapdragon processor, at the expense of Samsung’s production problems with Exynos.
On the other hand, we expect the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, which could run with a completely different design. However, it’s supposed to keep the Galaxy Note’s rectangular shape and S Pen space. Some analysts are even speculating that the Ultra could be so dependent on the Note model that it could appear like the Galaxy S22 Note.
The OnePlus 9T won’t see the light of day, so all eyes are on the arrival of the new OnePlus 10.
If all kinds of speculations can be believed, the OnePlus 10 – or at least the Pro model – will be equipped with a redesigned camera, a 6.7-inch QHD+ 120 Hz display, and camera specs like its predecessors. The battery capacity could also increase, as it is expected to reach 80W.
In addition to all of the above, we know that the OnePlus 10 series will introduce new software and (most likely) a very powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor.
Expectations are that in China, the OnePlus 10 could be available as early as January or February, while the rest of the world may have to wait until March or at least until April.
Google Pixel 7
We don’t know much about the new Google Pixel 7, but we’re sure it’s on the way. However, it will likely not be released before October 2022.
After Google has changed the Pixel 6 series drastically, we don’t expect such big changes for this year. However, we can say that Google has once again impressed us with its phones. If the new Pixel 7 is just a more sophisticated version of its predecessor, we’d be happy about that, too.
The first announcements indicate an upgrade to the Google Tensor processor, which doesn’t surprise us in the least. Additionally, the Pixel 7 is expected to have cameras similar to the Pixel 6. There are also rumors that it may only get one Pixel model this year, which could mean it won’t be the Pixel 7 Pro.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4
However, the Galaxy S22 isn’t the only Samsung phone to look forward to this year; Also here is the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. According to analysts, this is the best foldable phone not only for Samsung, but for all manufacturers.
We probably shouldn’t expect it until August or September, but it will offer quite a few novelties that are well worth the wait. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 should be lighter, and the entire design will be more water and dust resistant than the Z Fold 3, at the same time expect a more powerful battery and an improved “under display” camera.
Some sources even say that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will come with two improved “under the screen” cameras.
Sony Xperia 1 IV
The Sony Xperia 1 III is the best phone from Sony of recent times, which is why we are very excited about the announced Sony Xperia 1 IV, which is expected to be released earlier this year – possibly in April.
So far, we don’t know much about this device, but some sources speculate that it will use the same 50MP camera as the Google Pixel 6, while others focus on the front camera, which Sony is supposed to make itself.
Regardless of rumors and predictions, we always expect a lot from a Sony camera, as Sony is often the most focused in this area. This and a screen that, depending on the design from previous models, can again have at least 4K resolution.
Huawei P50 series
Huawei has already announced its new series, but this series is currently only available to customers in China. So we are still waiting for the global result.
As it turns out, it’s worth the wait, because the Huawei P50 Pro has a 6.6-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1228 x 2700 with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, a Snapdragon 888 processor, up to 12 GB of RAM, a quad-lens camera, and a 50-megapixel main camera MP, 64 MP telephoto (with 3.5x optical and 200x digital zoom), 13 MP wide-angle camera, and 40 MP monochrome camera.
The 4,360 mAh battery allows for 66W fast charging, but due to known limitations Huawei isn’t using Android, but HarmonyOS 2. It’s not using 5G technology yet.
The standard Huawei P50 is mostly similar to the phone, except that it has a slightly smaller screen, a 90Hz refresh rate, a 4100mAh battery and a different camera design. These lenses consist of a 50MP main, 13MP telephoto lens and a 12MP telephoto lens.
iPhone SE 3
While the iPhone 14 series is a more modern Apple eagerly awaited this year, we could also get a successor to the iPhone SE (2020) this year.
We’ve heard very little about this potential device, so it’s very likely that it won’t be this year. However, if the result has already occurred, the iPhone SE 3 can be powered by the A15 Bionic processor (like the iPhone 13 series).
The iPhone SE 3 is also expected to support 5G, otherwise it will be identical to its predecessor in most components, including a small 4.7-inch screen. It is this screen that could be the main competitive advantage of the device, especially if we take into account that it will not be the iPhone 14 mini.
Google Pixel Fold
We’ve been reading and listening to this device for the past few years, and this year could finally come when we get the phone.
According to the latest announcements, the Google Pixel Fold has a 7.6-inch foldable OLED display and the same Tensor processor as the Pixel 6 series, which isn’t Samsung and is worth the wait.
We’ve also been waiting for the new Nokia for quite some time, even for so long that the possible name of the device has changed in the meantime. Up front was the current name of Nokia 9.1, but that eventually changed to Nokia 9.2, 9.3 and then Nokia 10. During the drum, the name Nokia X60 appeared, which is more in line with the new naming scheme for Nokia devices.
As for the release date, it is not clear at this time when the phone could be released, as a number of possible dates appear in the forecast.
Even the Nokia 10 (or whatever it will be called) is worth the wait. Rumors point to an in-display front camera, a penta-lens camera, a 108MP or 200MP main camera, a 6000mAh battery, and a 144Hz screen refresh rate. So we’re talking about a real premium phone – if only it were to come out.
