The answer is very simple, buy a new laptop. number? There are certainly some better solutions. What if you hit him softly, you know, like we used to have TVs when she was stubborn? Doesn’t seem like a good idea, does it? Especially if your laptop has a sensitive hard drive inside.
Of course, we don’t recommend the physical stability of your PC, although we think it will be fair on occasion, especially if you have had a PC that qualified as a veteran over the years. Unfortunately, no one can escape old age, whether you have a $500 or $5,000 laptop.
Gaming laptops of 5 or 10 years old were once real monsters. If you are lucky and at the same time carefully choose a gaming laptop that has the right components, you can still enjoy playing games at the highest resolution after many years. However, sooner or later age will show its teeth. What can you do then? However, buying a new laptop is a completely natural option. It is of course an investment that you can avoid for at least a while.
Edit the software side first, then the device
Every computer is made up of software and hardware. Before you start the interior renovation, first look at the software part of the computer, where you can do many things to speed up your gaming laptop.
Every computer, game, or business needs a convenience that most users do not provide. you know what I mean. You have been warned that it is time for updates and a restart is required to install them. The vast majority of users move the mouse to the button later instead of restarting. This later spilled over into a few weeks. During this time, unfinished updates pile up, cache and memory clutter builds up. A reboot takes care of clearing the cache and memory, and just as we wake up refreshed from a good night’s sleep, our computer will also start to boot.
The computer is resting but still slow. What now? Go to Task Manager and see which tasks are using the most system memory (RAM) and processing power. Also check to see if any software is “hanging” on your hard drive, which is responsible for its continued performance. If you do not need the program, you can safely remove it. If the name is unknown to you, you should leave it alone, as it can be a major system process.
Web browsers (especially Chrome) can be a real glutton, especially if they are inundated with so many interfaces and extensions and we open dozens of tabs. Remove what you don’t need and close unnecessary tabs. If you notice that your RAM is still fully occupied, it’s time to upgrade its capacity.
Also, perform a security scan of your computer to remove any viruses and other malware that can slow down your computer in the background and steal your information. Delete temporary files that can accumulate quickly with regular use. Also, make sure that the hard drive is not redundant, as this may be one of the reasons for the slow performance. Disk fragmentation is also a common cause of slow speed. Some newer laptops and desktops defragment automatically (SSDs do not require defragmentation), but you can also do it manually with dedicated software.
If you follow our advice, you should notice an improvement. Otherwise, it’s time to change the machine.
SSD or HDD? Internal or external drives?
More than obvious, you’ll want to consider upgrading your storage drive to improve boot speeds, overall computer performance, or increase storage space. If you have a gaming laptop from the previous decade at home, it is most likely equipped with a low-capacity hard drive or solid state drive. In 2022, everyone knows that SSDs are incomparably faster. Even the worst SSD is just as fast, or maybe even faster than the best HDD, and it’s limited by its mechanical design. That’s why today’s laptops and desktops use SSDs to run and store major applications, and hard drives play the role of mules and store most movies, music, and games.
Although SSD is faster than HDD, that does not mean that you will get more frames per second (fps) when playing games. If you want to improve your frames per second, you will need to upgrade your processor, graphics card, or RAM. With desktop computers, the replacement process is very easy, you just need to make sure that your components are compatible with your current hardware (motherboard, refrigerator…). For laptops, the replacement process can be a bit more complicated, depending on the manufacturer of your gaming laptop, which can make it difficult to access some components. In any case, first consult the manual that came with your gaming laptop and check which SSDs/HDDs and RAM your laptop supports.

If you are not sure about your technical skills, you can leave RAM replacement to the professionals. However, you can upgrade your hard drive yourself without interfering with your computer’s interior. External hard drives and hard drives are a perfectly legitimate option, as they are not very different from internal ones. Which one do you choose? External SSDs will, as has been said, improve your gaming laptop’s startup, overall performance (opening programs, reading and writing data…), but won’t affect overall gaming performance. However, it will affect the launch of games and speed up the transition between different levels and locations, especially in more demanding games.
For playing games where there are no large transitions between scenes, external hard drives are a cheaper option, and at the same time you can use them to store other files, including photos, movies, and the like. Although these discs are removable, we do not recommend carrying them, as they are sensitive to shock and vibration from mechanical parts. External SSDs do not have these issues and you can take them with you on a trip without any worries. Internal and external hard drives are still a bit more expensive than hard drives, but the difference is steadily diminishing. The difference is smaller until January 31 at links.si, where special discounts on selected external hard drives await you.
In the event that the rest of your gaming laptop (processor, graphics card) is still powerful enough, we recommend upgrading your RAM and hard drive first. If you find that your gaming laptop is of no help, it may be time to buy a new one. You’ve certainly heard that the current situation in the PC market is turbulent, but you can still find a good deal. The Gaming Weekend campaign is currently underway on the links.si website (until January 16), where you will find gaming laptops that will once again be able to dominate the virtual battlefield.
