Like it or not, bots are a cool thing. If you’ve been following the development of robotics (even outside of the industrial world), you’ll definitely be fascinated by how advanced they are and how short time has come. At the beginning of the development cycle they worked confusingly, stopped a few times, weren’t performing at the right level and it would be hard to call them smart, except for their auto-cleaning function. Today, the story is completely different. At what development point are robotic vacuum cleaners? Are appliances with which we can check vacuuming and dishwashing become our chores list?
We wanted to test it with the new generation of the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro robotic vacuum cleaner. Find out how it passed our test below.

Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro arrived in a simple cardboard box, and inside, every item is neatly arranged. Already in the case itself, you will notice that it is a classic variant of the robotic vacuum cleaner, which has a diameter of 350 mm. In the test, we had the Xiaomi Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro in a white mask, which at least in our headquarters fits better with the rest of the furniture.
As we are used to from Xiaomi products, the quality of the robotic vacuum cleaner is at the expected level, especially in this price range. Even with the “rough” handling of the robot, we didn’t feel vulnerable, which was a good sign that any more difficult obstacles wouldn’t damage the robotic vacuum cleaner.
The advanced LDS (laser distance sensor), capable of covering the entire 360-degree area around the robotic vacuum cleaner, is responsible for controlling the rooms and creating a virtual map. The chassis is about 9.5 cm high from the floor, which when in use means the robot can “squeeze” under certain furniture and clean hard-to-reach areas. There are only two mechanical buttons on the case: on / off and forced return to the charging station. The dust collector with integrated H14 filter (450 ml) is located under the top cover, which can be easily lifted when it is time to empty.
The robotic vacuum cleaner has up to 19 sensors, 6 of which are located at the bottom, which protect the robot from falling from a height. As it’s a robotic vacuum cleaner and floor washer, you’ll also find a unit to connect a water tank (250ml) and a microfiber cloth on the bottom. At the bottom there is also a brush for cleaning the edges, two wheels with independent suspension, a swivel wheel and a main brush. The charging contacts are located on the back. At the front, the robot is protected by a bumper with a built-in obstacle detection sensor.
Finally, let’s mention the lithium-ion battery with an upgraded capacity of 5200 mAh, which, according to Xiaomi, can last up to 3 hours of cleaning. But how does all this smart technology prove itself in the real world?
Are we happy with the user experience?
Absolutely. From initial setup and cleaning to map creation and overall ease of use, the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro delivers on its promises.
To start cleaning, we connected the robotic vacuum cleaner to the Xiaomi Home app, through which you will control the robot in most cases. You can also command the bot manually with the touch of a button, but you cannot set some advanced features. More on that in a bit, let’s get started with creating a map first. Before this, it is necessary to install a charging station, in which the robotic vacuum cleaner will be located most of the time. Xiaomi recommends leaving at least half a meter of space on each side, which has proven to be unnecessary. We put the robot in the corner, touching the tables and cabinets on each side. However, the robot had no problem getting back to the charging station.
In fact, there is not much to say here, because everything happens automatically. In our testing, the robotic vacuum cleaner had to recognize just over 50 metres2. The whole process took less than five minutes. What worried us at first was that the map wouldn’t be accurate enough, because the robot didn’t stay long in the individual rooms or in some cases just entered the room, made some moves and headed into another room. Our suspicion was unfounded, as the first map was almost complete. The LDS laser sensor did its job perfectly.
During the first cleaning, we left some major and minor obstructions behind so that we could observe how the robot responds to changes in space. Instantly identify the main obstacles (chairs, chests…) and easily bypass them. With minor obstacles (cat food, water bowl, toys…), stick to the “I’m stronger, you back down” principle. An obstacle avoidance sensor is located in the front bumper, which means that the object must be level with the sensor in order for it to be recognized.
Interestingly, on the first attempt, the robot failed to descend under the table, as chairs were in its way. He cleverly approached the problem from another angle, after which he managed to put it under the table, but could not find his way back (we let him spin for a minute or two in a circle). He saved his difficulties and, as it turned out from the lesson, also learned something, since he had no trouble arranging under the chairs and table since.
We also watched with interest as he went under the closet and came back a little more dusty than he came in. This is good news for those who own many similar pieces of furniture and are familiar with the discomfort of vacuuming and washing hard-to-reach areas of the house.
Small stairs are not a problem for him, so you don’t have to worry about not cleaning the room.
What about the quality of vacuuming and washing?
We first tested a self-contained suction function. At 3000Pa we were hoping it wouldn’t have any trouble absorbing any dirt and we were right. In the first test, we poured cat sand, coffee beans, candy, and similar dirt on it. We turned on the standard suction power and left the robot with flawless surfaces behind. We were more interested in how he would behave when absorbing larger pieces of cat litter. Some of the modern vacuum cleaners we tested had some problems cleaning (mainly due to the design of the vacuum cleaners rather than the lack of power), but the Xiaomi robotic vacuum cleaner surprised us positively in this case.
In this mode, the robot is practically inaudible or you will only hear it if it wants to overcome an obstacle or step. At higher settings, you will definitely hear its presence, but at least in our case not to the extent that noise might bother us while talking or watching TV.
How about washing the floor? Before use, you must first install the water tank (do not use detergents, detergents, hot water can damage the container) and a microfiber cloth that Xiaomi has previously installed. You have two options: self-washing or sweeping and washing in one. You can also adjust the amount of water you want to use to wash the floor (low, medium and high setting). After choosing the washing method, the whole process is identical to the vacuum cleaner.
You will feel the vibrations when you turn it on. Xiaomi says that their robotic assistant washes with the help of sound vibrations. Produces up to 10,000 per minute. This should ensure optimal cleaning of even the toughest stains.
For testing, we set the robot on fresh dirt: leftover wet cat food, cream sauce, and prune juice. The floor was washed without complications. He successfully cleaned the selected dirt, without leaving any noticeable traces. What about dry patches? However, the story is a little different, as it failed to completely clean the dirty surface (even in Turbo mode). Were we unhappy with washing it off? No, in most cases he did his job well. For more stubborn stains, we’ve come up with the fact that it will be necessary to keep a classic rag every now and then. We recommend the use of a dishwasher with a robot for daily hygiene. This will also prevent any dirt from installing to the point that the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro will not be able to clean it.
Have we noticed any shortcomings so far? Yes, for example, the main brush is subject to clamping, which will need to be removed manually after a few cycles of suction. The hair removal process should take no more than a minute, which is simple compared to the fact that the robot takes care of the cleanliness of the house instead of you.
Application, advanced features, convenience
Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro is more efficient when connected to the Xiaomi Home app. The main screen consists of a virtual map and a toolbar that shows the size of the rooms, the time of the last cleaning, and the status of the battery. Below the map are the on/off and return to charging station buttons. Below are two sections for normal cleaning and custom cleaning.
For normal cleaning, you can choose the cleaning method (vacuuming, washing or vacuuming + washing), cleaning strength (silent cleaning night mode is also available) and if you choose to wash, you can adjust the amount of water that the robot will spray the clothes.
In the custom cleaning mode, you can set the desired configurations for each room. In addition to the above features, you can also set the bot assistant to make two rounds from a specific room. You can access more advanced functions and settings via the settings in the upper right corner of the app. Here you can view your entire cleaning history, edit default maps (you can create multiple custom maps), set up restricted areas, merge or split spaces, set timers, and more. The function that will be useful after a long cooking, for example, is cleaning the edges. In this mode, the robot only cleans the edges where the most dirt usually accumulates.
In the dishwashing and cleaning settings, you can choose between energy-saving cleaning or professional cleaning, where precision is your priority. For maintenance purposes, there is a section where you can monitor the health of the components of the robotic vacuum cleaner.
The primary task of a robotic vacuum cleaner is to improve the user’s quality of life. Did Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro work? Undoubtedly. During the entire test, we were able to completely ignore the vacuuming and partially wash the floor. Its operation is smooth, fast and most importantly automatic. After the initial setup of the map and timers, the robotic vacuum cleaner is almost completely autonomous.
What do we like the most about the robot? Powerful battery, 4 suction power settings, smart, easy to use and virtually maintenance free. The main brush is prone to plucking, and the water tank is a bit awkward to fill and empty, but these minor flaws are overshadowed by other superlatives and are very competitively priced.
