Epson’s commitment to…

Epson will invest an additional 100 billion yen in further sustainable development of print technology.

With its ongoing concern for climate and the environment, Epson sees its commitment to sustainable technologies, particularly inkjet printing technologies for business. Business environments are already rapidly transitioning to eco-friendly business inkjet printers.

Epson has been committed to sustainability and has invested more than half a billion euros since 2018 in developing PrecisionCore printheads that provide high-quality, sustainable, heat-free printing as an alternative to competitive print technologies. This was recently followed by an additional investment of 100 billion yen to support the development of new materials and technologies to reduce the environmental impact of printing.

The latest Epson-sponsored IDC Info Snapshot examines print industry trends and forecasts for business inkjet technology and projects a 2.6% year-over-year decline in laser printing demand, compared to a +7% annual growth rate for business inkjet printers.1. The Info Snapshot report also identifies key reasons for this shift, with an IDC survey finding that 88% of IT decision makers now consider energy consumption and waste (87%) to be critical or critical when choosing new printing devices.2. The IDC survey also showed that 78% of respondents believe that inkjet printers and MFPs are more environmentally friendly than laser printers and MFPs.3.

Today, printing accounts for 10% of the energy used in the office4And by switching to Epson business inkjet printers, organizations can save up to 83% of these energy needs.5Comments Gareth Jay of Epson Europe continues: “The climate emergency affects us all and we all have a responsibility to resolve it. With this in mind, we have invested heavily in improving the sustainable efficiency of both our business and the products we supply, to help customers and end users improve their outcomes as well” .

The positive attitude toward business inkjet printers is further highlighted in a new IDC Vendor Spotlight report commissioned by Epson, with 65% of European IT managers showing plans to allocate up to half of their IT budgets to sustainable products and services. Trust and Positive Acceptance Business inkjet printers and their contribution to sustainability, security and compliance6 .

“Laser printers take a lot of resources and have a lot of moving parts,” explains Jay, and continues, “Inkjet printers are obviously better, but not all inkjet printers are the same. Our printing doesn’t need heat to print—which means much less power, Because it does not need time to warm up when the user turns it on or wakes it up from sleep standby. This means faster printing, consistently high quality printing, significant time savings, lower costs and, of course, lower energy consumption.”

Likewise, the mixed workforce has turned its attention to inkjet printing, searching for sustainable and inexpensive solutions for home offices and smaller office workgroups. In 2021, Epson celebrates the completion of 60 million EcoTank printers worldwide8Due to its ability to reduce wastage and energy consumption. The IDC Vendor Spotlight report showed that ink tank systems generate less waste and fill because they require fewer consumables. This is why it is in high demand in offices all over Europe. 13% of employees who work from home already use a subscription to a service to deliver consumables, and IDC predicts that by 2024, 60% of organizations will switch to a subscription model for print and print related services7.

“We will continue to advocate for the benefits of heat-free inkjet technology and the diverse consumable subscription models available to both businesses and home users,” concludes Jay.
