Starlinka speed is slowing down – …

Although Starlink is still faster than any other satellite internet provider in the US, speeds are starting to slow.

The Starlink satellite broadband system in the US is losing momentum as it gains new customers. However, in Canada and other countries, it’s still just as fast, at least according to Ookla Speedtest statistics.

According to Ookla, Starlink’s average download speed in the US dropped from 97.23Mbps to 87.25Mbps between Q2 and Q3 of 2021, although it was still significantly faster than satellite competitors HughesNet and Viasat, And that was stuck in the 20 Mbps range.

For working from home, Starlink remains the only satellite internet with a delay close to what you get from fixed and mobile connections, at around 44 milliseconds, which is less than a tenth of that of HughesNet and Viasat.

As Ookla notes, a decrease in speed should be expected as the number of users increases. Starlink continues to launch more satellites to increase capacity, with the latest launch of 52 satellites on December 18. Inverse estimates that the company will launch at least 36 constellations of new satellites in 2022, increasing internet capacity.
