Starlink Ilona Maska will open a representative office in Ukraine – Fedorov

This was stated by the Minister of Digital Transformation Mikhail Fedorov.

The Minister directed the concerned authorities to complete the necessary accreditation, measurement and frequency procedures as soon as possible. Promises to report in detail on the progress of this work.

Fedorov recalled that at the beginning of the war, on February 26, he asked Ilona Mask to supply Starlink to Ukraine. The next day, the businessman received a positive response, and within a week – the first 500 Starlink stations with free firmware for Ukraine.

According to the Minister, today there are more than 10,000 stations that help the Armed Forces of Ukraine to communicate and conduct special operations, support the operation of power and telecommunications facilities, health care facilities and even a sowing campaign, as well as the return of liberated lands .

“Now it is almost impossible to imagine Ukraine without modern Starlink technology. This technology will become more accessible to Ukrainians.”– confirmed Fedorov.

Elon Musk helps Ukraine

Against the background of a large-scale Russian war against Ukraine, American businessman Elon Musk announced that his Starlink satellite network service will begin to operate in Ukraine, and the company will send a number of stations here.

Since then, several Starlink shipments have arrived in Ukraine, broken down by region. And the Starlink application, which allows smartphone users to access the satellite Internet from SpaceX, became the most downloaded in Ukraine.

Starlink is designed to access broadband internet in places where access has been unreliable or completely nonexistent. Starlink satellite internet terminals are already working to maintain critical performance of critical infrastructure and services in the areas of health, finance and energy.

The Ministry of Education notes that the quality of the Internet from Starlink in eastern Ukraine is worse than in the West. This can be explained by the fact that Ukraine does not yet have its own Starlink ground station. The closest stations are in Poland, Lithuania and Turkey. At the same time, it is planned to be built after the war.

What is starlink?

Starlink is a project of entrepreneur Ilona Mask to create a global satellite Internet. So far, SpaceX has launched nearly 2,000 satellites into orbit, and plans to launch 42,000 satellites into space by 2027.

At the end of January 2021, the company said its internet beta was already in use by 10,000 customers in the United States, Australia, New Zealand and parts of Europe. Early users claimed that the Internet worked without interruption, even in harsh weather conditions.
