Cloud services according to the most accurate…

Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe is ISO 27017 certified, proving that the full range of its cloud services comply with the most stringent and demanding information security standards. The ISO 27017 standard, published by the International Organization for Standardization, is a globally recognized standard for information security as it relates to cloud infrastructure.

The cloud is becoming increasingly important in the IT strategies of many organizations, providing benefits such as greater flexibility, enabling remote access to data for an increasingly dispersed workforce, and the ability to scale with changing needs. No wonder 80% of organizations surveyed by Quocirca expect their IT to be at least half cloud-based in the near future.[1]. At the same time, the security of key data stored in the cloud should be a top priority. However, 33% of IT decision makers believe that cloud or hybrid platforms are the biggest security risks[2].

ISO 27017 certification confirms Konica Minolta’s strict commitment to cloud security

To prevent the cloud from becoming a security risk, Konica Minolta applies high standards to protect its cloud solutions. Obtaining the globally recognized ISO 27017 certification confirms and builds on the company’s current strong security foundation: Konica Minolta was awarded the ISO 27001 Information Security Management System (ISMS) certification in 2020, covering the company’s comprehensive approach to information security both within the organization and service clients. ISO 27017 now extends this certification to the cloud environment provided by Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe and confirms that Konica Minolta has created a secure cloud environment and reduced the risk of security issues. It includes a series of guidelines, such as strict protection of the cloud environment against unauthorized access or specific responsibilities between the provider and the customer.

As companies bring more and more digitalization into their operations, our customers know that Konica Minolta is the best partner that can help them design and realize the vision of their digital work environment – with solutions that meet the highest levels of information security and data protection. We are therefore pleased to fully comply with our stringent audit requirements. With ISO 27017 certification, we can prove that our comprehensive approach to information security covers the full scope of our cloud services, thus ensuring our customers complete security.

High security standards for Konica Minolta data centers

Konica Minolta’s cloud security concept for its data centers mainly includes the following aspects. Data centers in Germany and Sweden are divided into five or four security zones. Access is governed by a comprehensive concept of access management and requires different levels of authentication to pass through regions. All customer data is reliably protected by a dedicated permanent backup system. Customers are provided with complete network isolation on the platform, including their network segment, routers and firewalls.

For better security, an additional micro-segmentation is available through distributed firewall services. All server rooms have a fire resistance of at least 90 minutes and are equipped with an early detection system with fire and heat early detection sensors. In Germany, the campus energy environment is built as a continuous autonomous system along with safe emergency power generators. The data center in Sweden contains two independent power sources (2N power system) with redundant block technology. As a result of these actions, the generators guarantee at least 72 (Germany) or 24 (Sweden) hours of autonomous operation.

The EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requires complete protection of data transferred from on-premises to the cloud. With both data centers located in Europe, Konica Minolta not only offers GDPR compliant solutions but also helps its clients achieve a high level of data sovereignty by always maintaining control over their data and applications.

Konica Minolta also offers comprehensive security solutions in the cloud printing field. Quocirca recently named Konica Minolta a “leader” in print security[3]. According to Quocirca, Konica Minolta’s suite of cloud printing services “includes multiple options to support and increase customer security. Data and document security is ensured by encryption, use of authorized data centers, authentication using a follow-up method, access control based on assigned rights, and controlled guest access. To process Privacy and public data protection concerns, Konica Minolta is working to reduce data sharing.”
