Zilliqa announces its Web 3 game console with crypto mining features

Zilliqa is working on a console that provides the ability to mine cryptocurrencies while players enjoy their favorite games on Web3.

Zilliqa, a layer-one blockchain protocol, has announced the launch of a new Web3-focused video game console that rivals Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony – but with a twist that makes it unique.

Designed for gamers and crypto enthusiasts, the new console will have its own game center, Web3 wallet, and crypto mining tools, according to Zilliqa’s statement published by VentureBeat. Next month, Zilliqa will begin testing Game Center.

For now, Zilliqa has refrained from revealing the console’s hardware specifications; But based on the amount of ports shown in the images (headphone jack, Ethernet, USB-C, USB 3.0, HDMI, among others), it’s expected to be a competitive piece of hardware on par with its mainstream competitors.

Zilliqa hopes to become the power of Web 3 Gaming

Valentin Coplia, Director of Game Technology at Zilliqa, said the company received a good response from the community when it announced its first game at Gamescom. The team expects to attract users’ attention not only for the gaming capabilities of their devices but because of its financial incentives, which will be a great addition for those interested in acquiring it.

“The Zilliqa Hardware Console and Game Center will allow non-crypto citizens to earn money while playing fun games without the complexity of managing the cryptocurrencies they earn.”

Cobelea also added that the console and game center will launch in early 2023 as the company expands its catalog. Zilliqa hopes it will be the “Steam equivalent of Web3 games”.

“With the support of the great crypto community Zilliqa and our easy-to-use infrastructure, we have no doubts that we can become the Steam equivalent of Web3 games.”

Web 3 video games enter the gaming industry

According to Zilliqa’s latest report on Web3 games, blockchain gaming activity increased by more than 2,000% in 2021, and despite the bearish times, some games managed to gain more than 300,000 active users.

However, there is still a long way to go for these types of games to be able to compete on an equal footing with those on Web 2, because players who enter Web 2 do so for fun without worrying about financial gain, while in Web3, the vast majority of mods to earn money.

According to Zilliqa, the Web3 game industry is still in its early years of maturity, so perhaps future studios will be able to introduce new gaming styles, as well as focusing on financial incentives, as fun and competitive as Axie Infinity. In the midst of the Bitcoin bull run, many families in countries like the Philippines have given up their jobs to devote themselves full time to the game.
