In the United States, the Democrats were able to gain an advantage in the Senate

The US Democratic Party was able to obtain a majority in the Senate after the second round of elections in the state of Georgia.

This was reported by the Associated Press.

Democratic candidate Raphael Warnock received 50.6% of the vote, while his Republican opponent, Herschel Walker, received 49.4%.

In the first round, Warnock led Walker by 37,000 votes out of nearly 4 million, but fell short of the 50% threshold to avoid a runoff.

As the Associated Press journalists wrote, in the second round, Baptist pastor Warnock had a bigger final advantage over NFL star Walker after he was beset with a scandal. Walker, who is anti-abortion, was accused by two ex-girlfriends of encouraging them to terminate their pregnancies and even paying for it.

With a Warnock victory, the Democrats will have a 51-49 majority in the upper house of Congress over the next two years, meaning they will no longer have to deal with the Republicans on power-sharing.

How can it affect Ukraine?

Congress is not directly involved in foreign policy, but it still has influence over it. Thus, the Senate approves the nominations of ambassadors and government officials, and the foreign visits of some members of Congress can play an important role. After all, it is Congress that approves the budget and financial aid. The latter is very important for Ukraine, which is dependent on international funding and military aid.
